Appalachia
Service Project
The planning phase for the Appalachia Service Project
Summer 2008 mission trip has begun. This year's trip is
scheduled for July 27-August 2 in Wyoming County, West Virginia.
We will send ASP Headquarters the expected number of volunteers/
teams. While ASP is a youth oriented mission project, we are
also looking for adults to chaperone and drive. It is
recommended to have one adult male and one adult female per team.
Each team consists of a minimum of four and a maximum of seven
people. We are anticipating four teams again this year, and
possibly more. Any youth or adults interested in
participating, please contact Gary Cox. For
more information on Appalachia Service Project, go to
www.asphome.org.
Food Drive
Look for the shopping cart in
the hallway near the sanctuary. The need for food donations for the
HOPE food pantry is great. Over the next several months please
remember to bring in a food donation. Donations can be placed in
the shopping cart, which will be available after each of the morning
services. God has blessed us; let us show this love and gratitude
to others in need. The listed foods are in short supply: Canned
Goods, Cereal, Macaroni & Cheese, Canned Tuna, Peanut Butter and
Pasta Sauce.
LPUMC Clothes
Closet
Our church owns and operates the LPUMC Clothes
Closet. The Clothes Closet is run by volunteers from the church. We
are able to provide free clothes to the needy in the community. The
clothes closet is located in the basement of the church and is open
every Monday & Friday from 11:00 am to 2:00 pm and Wednesdays from
9:30 a.m. – 3:00 p.m.
There is a shortage of men's summer clothing in the
Clothes Closet. Particular items requested are men's summer
weight/all season pants, including khakis, dress slacks and blue
jeans; men's shorts, shoes, and t-shirts. All types of
clothing, including shoes are also needed for boys.
Sewing Seeds of Kindness
This ministry is beginning a large quilting project
and is in need of quality crafting fabric (100% cotton quilting
fabric). Other sewing notions are also needed. If you
would like to make a donation, there will be a basket in the hallway
marked "Sewing Seeds of Kindness". If you have any questions
or would like to join this ministry, please call Carol Barton at
(301) 475-6296.
Blood Drives
LPUMC hold Blood Drives every third Thursday of the
month in the Fellowship Hall. Blood
supplies are extremely low at this time. If you would like to
donate, please call 1-800- GIVE-LIFE.
Blankets of Love Ministry
We crochet blankets for Sierra House (local temporary
home for troubled teenage girls), Hughesville women's shelter
(temporary home for battered women and their children), Pregnancy
Care Center, Crossroads of Southern Maryland (new shelter for
families), and ACTS (A Community That Shares) Inc. We also crochet
baby blankets and sweater sets for babies in the congregation when
they are baptized.
St. Mary's
Caring
Several teams from the church that
cooks & serves breakfast and lunch once or twice a month at this soup
kitchen. St. Mary's Caring feeds the low income and homeless of St.
Mary's County at breakfast and lunch Mon-Sat. They are located
across from our church, next to the fire department. You can help.
