The Lexington Park United Methodist Church
is the outgrowth of the Ebenezer Methodist Church (1820 - 1946) and
the Cedar Point Methodist Church. When Ebenezer Methodist Church
closed in 1946 its members, along with other Christians, formed
Lexington Park Community Church (Methodist). This congregation,
without a church, met for worship services in various buildings
around Lexington Park.
In August, 1947, the Community Church
congregation purchased a church site, comprised of 3.5 acres of
woodland, located at the corner of Great Mills Road and Coral Place
in Lexington Park.
The acquired land was cleared and in 1949 a
Methodist parsonage was built. In 1951, the Lexington Park Methodist
Church was erected completing a church home for the faithful members
of the Ebenezer, Cedar Point, and Community Church congregation.
In 1959, our present sanctuary was erected
and attached to the 1951 structure which was converted into a social
hall. Then in 1994-1995 the parsonage and social hall were replaced
with a multi-purpose building creating the current Lexington Park
United Methodist Church.
