News & Notes – February 17, 2012

Dear Congregation,

Here are several events happening in the next few days at LPUMC.

ON SUNDAY MORNING, we hope to worship with you at 8AM, 9:30 or 11AM.
Children & Youth Classes at 9:30; adult class options at both 9:30 & 11.

THIS SATURDAY, FEB. 18, 7:00AM TO NOON: CLOTHING GIVE-AWAY:
Our Clothes Closet is clearing out its excess inventory with this one-day give-away in our Fellowship Hall. Especially large selections of women’s blouses/tops and children’s clothes, but other items as well.
Come by to check it out or tell somebody who might be interested.
STORAGE BINS are available in exchange for any donation to the Clothes Closet Ministry.

CHURCH OFFICE WILL BE CLOSED ON MONDAY, FEB. 20 in observance of Presidents’ Day. This does not necessarily affect other activities in the building, so if you are unsure please check with the leader of your group or activity.

ASH WEDNESDAY WORSHIP SERVICE: WEDNESDAY FEB. 22, 7PM IN SANCTUARY
This quiet, contemplative service marks the beginning of the 40-day season of Lent, the time of preparation for Holy Week and Easter. The ashes we receive on our foreheads are a solemn reminder that death and sin are very real in our lives. However, the ashes are in the shape of a cross, reminding us that our sins are forgiven through the Cross of Jesus Christ, and assuring us that our death gives way to eternal life!  We hope you’ll join us for this meaningful worship experience. Our 11AM Praise Team brings music.

For the full schedule of activities this week & beyond, you may view the February calendar at http://www.lpumchurch.org/index.php/calendar.

For other news, information and articles about current events, see the February newsletter at http://www.lpumchurch.org/wp-content/uploads/2012/01/Newsletter-February-2012-Final.pdf

The Sunday Bulletin is available at all 3 services on Sunday morning listing the current week’s activities & information.

Blessings to you – Pastor Lori

Seeking your place in ministry at LPUMC?

Dear Congregation, are you still seeking your place in ministry here at LUMC?

Perhaps you can make a difference in the Outreach & Mission ministry of the church.  Please take a look at the positions below, and e-mail me back if you’d like to know more about one of these forms of ministry.  Each one is important to our ongoing and expanding ministry in the community.
Blessings to you – Pastor Lori

VOLUNTEER POSITIONS OPEN

These positions are under the Outreach/Mission ministry, coordinated this year by Joy McBride.

Wal-Mart Food Pick-up.
Requires about one hour, once per week, but could be a rotating schedule if several people are interested. Must be done on Tues., Wed., OR Thurs. morning. Pick up banana boxes of donated groceries from Wal-Mart on Rt. 235 & deliver to Hope Food Pantry at Church of the Ascension on Great Mills Rd.

Pick up & deliver food from grocery carts in church hallways to HOPE Food Pantry. Pantry is open Mon-Thurs. mornings. Should be done once/week but could be rotating schedule if several are interested.

Member of Mission Advisory Team. This group will meet approximately once per month to review the various requests LPUMC receives for support of missionaries, mission trips, helping agencies, and other outreach/mission projects. This team will coordinate the decision-making process and organize any action that may be required for the church to respond to these requests.

WARM Rotating Winter Shelter.  We can still use volunteers for many different tasks for the week beginning Feb. 26, when we once again host the shelter at LPUMC.  Everything from site monitors to meal preparers to set-up and laundry.  Help with one task, one time that week.  Details of the different roles are available of course so please let us know if you’re interested.

Does one of these ministries sound like it has your name on it?  If so, please respond to me by e-mail & we can chat further about your possible interest.  Pastor Lori
